East York, centrally located in the Greater Toronto Area, is nestled on both side of the Don River Valley and the Don Valley Parkway which connects the Queen Elizabeth Way to Highway 401. The 401 is a direct linkage to all municipalities in southern Ontario and into Quebec from Windsor in western Ontario to Monreal in Quebec. The QEW is also a direct link to several access points to the USA while passing many other Canadian municipalities.

East York has three main business areas each having its own distinct features:

The Leaside Industrial Areais a well established industrial area with distinguised firms such as Tremco Canada Ltd., Lincoln Electric Company of Canada, Mercedes-Benz and Dorothea Knitting Mills and new media firms in multimedia service and telecommunications. The latter recently expanded its operation and increased its employment by 13%.

The East York Centre Business Area is a very attractive business location. Along tree-lined Overlea Boulevard offices including, the head offices of Coca-Cola Limited and Dyment Limited, are situated. Industrial and office properties are located in the northern part of the East York Centre's business area and to the south lies a high density residential community with a population of over 12,000.



The O'Connor Industrial Area is located between O'Connor Drive and Eglinton Avenue East. The Don Valley Parkway exit at Eglinton Avenue East can be accessed either from O'Connor or Bermondsey Road. This is an industrial area in the interior with companies such as Peak Frean (Nabisco), Schneider Canada Ltd., Herzig Somerville and others. Along the boundaries of the O'Connor Industrial area recently rezoned properties attracted two well-known retail/warehouse stores, The Home Depot and White Rose Craft and Nursery Supplies. The area is also zoned to allow up to 30% retail use for existing industries to allow them to sell their product directly to the public.

East York has a population of 102,696. The largest age group is in the 25 - 44 year age group, and offers an excellent available work force. In addition East York is close to a consumer market of over 4 million people.
